Next Stage Somerset are proud to be collaborating with Somerset businesses to provide story-tellers for local primary schools as part of World Book Day Charity.
In addition to reading a book, the story-teller will talk about their career and their employer, with the aim of broadening the horizons of young people about local businesses and bringing to life some of the career opportunities in the region.
We’re working alongside Somerset County Council and Somerset Careers Hub and their “Start Small, Dream Big” project which is working with 50 local primary schools to tackle some of the challenges around social mobility in the region at an earlier age. With some areas in Somerset having the worst educational outcomes for children from a disadvantaged background in the entire country, we’re really keen to work with them to help.
A range of local businesses and individuals have already pledged their support, including WPA Health Insurance, Claims Consortium Group, Jeremy Hyams, Evo Agency, Evo Talent, Clarke Willmott, ACMole, Stephens Scown, Ballantine Wealth Management, Taunton Rugby Football Club & Conference Centre, RK BELL GROUP, Gworks Surfacing & Civil Engineering Ltd, Gooding Accounts Ltd, Somerset Cricket Foundation, NatWest, The Huddle, Polly Gibson DipWSET, Ian Brett, 1610 Active, Neil Cox, Somerset Education Business Partnership (EBP) and Somerset Careers Hub.
Last year an equivalent event in Plymouth reached over 9,000 primary school children, and we’d love to create a similar initiative in Somerset.
If you’d also be interested in getting involved please contact Lexi Shore (LinkedIn) so we can share further details. We are matching schools with businesses in the coming weeks, ahead of World Book Day on 7th March.
