The 16th of May was a day of joy, excitement and fun! The Colour Run became a monumental event for St Margarets Hospice, the laughter, spirit and community all brought together into one fun event. Hues of all colours were sprinkled over the eager runners who completed the run in style – there were even three inflatable flamingos! Talk about dedication!
St Margarets Hospice is one of the South West’s leading charities, specialising in the sustainable, high quality, and compassionate hospice care. Last year alone, they cared for 5,680 people including family members and carers. As well as this, they answered 29,096 calls – a truly breathtaking statistic. This charity continues to create an impact and touches the lives of thousands more people, through community engagement and fundraising events.
A C Mole proudly ran the Bar, which overlooked the dancing, singing and beautiful chaos of the Colour Run! Families were dancing and children were laughing. It really was a serene event. The combination of blues, yellows and reds, as well as pinks, purples and green painted poetry to the eye. The music was impeccable, a song for everyone – even we had a little dance.
As volunteers, we welcomed everyone with our striking blue ACM tops, adding another pop of colour, and spoke with others whilst selling the selection of drinks before us. It’s safe to say there was something for everyone. A sudden rush of runners with medals proudly showing off their love and support for St Margaret’s dashed toward us ready for a crisp diet coke or a fruit filled drink. Conversations flowed as we spoke with the many runners who were overwhelmed from the love and support the community really gave (if a little out of breath).
Two shifts were undertaken, with 9 A C Mole volunteers proudly taking the stage. The party atmosphere began around 12pm – The chorus of giggles and cheers were heard from miles away, a wave of hands in the air, and the bursts of prominent colours truly marked the first few hours of this event. We were ready and prepared on the Bar, with our collective experiences, customer service was impeccable.
From where we stood – we could get a full view of the Colour Run. We looked around and spotted something with our eyes… a Bee Mascot! This sparked conversation of what drink a Bee would have. We settled on something sweet, after all, they do like honey! In the late afternoon, plenty of drinks were given, and music was amplified. Interactive activities occurred and it’s safe to say the rainbow of colours were eye catching now more than ever.
We are truly grateful to be a part of St Margaret’s Colour Run and to help raise money for a sensational and spectacular charity. It really was a remarkable day.
