In order to celebrate the achievement of reaching 120 years, we have decided to carry out an array of activities themed around ‘120’ over the next 12 months.
As for the theme for the 120 celebrations, it was decided that it should be one that has a positive impact on our local environment, the people who live in the area and supports local causes or initiatives.
Our first idea came from the awareness that in the current climate, the rising cost of living is something on many people’s minds and we knew we wanted to try and help those most in need. Therefore we sought out a local initiative to give us some advice on how we could help and Taunton Food Bank popped into mind.
Taunton Food Bank was established in 2012 by The Trussell Trust which runs the largest network of food banks in the UK, providing support and food to people in crisis. As quoted on their website, a staggering fourteen million people live below the poverty line, which includes 4.5 million children and, in the 12 months from April 2021 handed out an eye watering 2.1 million emergency food parcels to people in need; with 174,805 of those in the South West region alone.
For this reason we have pledged to fund the green grocers bill every month, for the next 12 months, for Taunton Food Bank. This contribution will make a difference to the lives of many in the area who at times depend on the foodbank to help them through difficult periods of life and monetary challenges.
Sue Weightman, on behalf of Taunton Foodbank said “We are very grateful for the support from A C Mole. Adding fresh fruit and veg to our food boxes is a new venture as it adds an additional element of nutrition and also the ability to make the boxes produce more meals for the families. In this current financial climate this is so important. It is very hard for anyone to come to a foodbank and with the support from A C Mole we are able to not only support them well but with good quality fresh produce make life seem a little better”.
