In August, our ACM Community team headed over to Lisieux Way Community Gardens in Blackbrook to help Somerset Wildlife Trust replace old planters that had fallen into disrepair.

Somerset Wildlife Trust is a charity that is focused on restoring habitats to support a wide range of wildlife and restore natural processes that are essential for healthy landscapes, and provide vital services such as clean air and water, food, carbon absorption and flood alleviation.

Somerset Wildlife Trust’s vision for a Wilder Somerset is a county-wide Nature Recovery Network, creating more space for wildlife, benefiting everyone and playing its part in helping us reverse biodiversity loss and tackle the climate crisis.

Our ACM Community team reached out to Somerset Wildlife Trust to see how we could help with any local projects and they shared their need for a team to help fund and install new planters at the Lisieux Way Community Gardens.

With many of our team walking past these gardens regularly, it was the perfect opportunity to give back to a space that’s right on our doorstep.

Our morning was spent preparing the materials, breaking down the old planters and then installing the new timber frames.

After a few hours of hard work in the sun, the team and the Somerset Wildlife Trust volunteers took a well-earned break to enjoy some refreshing ice cream and admire the fruits of our labour.

Sam Briggs, Senior Manager at A C Mole, said “We had a fantastic morning supporting Somerset Wildlife Trust as part of our ACM Community Giving initiative. It was a brilliant opportunity to give back to the local community in a hands-on way. A big thank you to Peter Thomas and Guy Braga from Somerset Wildlife Trust for their guidance and expertise throughout the planter-building process. Trading calculators for cordless drills was certainly a change of routine — but a very rewarding one!”

Peter Thomas, volunteer for Somerset Wildlife Trust said “Just a very brief note to express our appreciation of the team at A C Mole. It was a joy to work with you all – in the immense heat – and to see the task achieved in good time.”
